Everytime I file a trademark, I will get numerous letters in the mail looking very official with an invoice enclosed for anything from $200 to $2000, offering to “record” my trademark application in their database. Just say no!
They are counting on your inexperience to send them a check for a useless service. Some of these scammers will go to great lengths to make their correspondence look like it came from an official US Government source. Be careful and read the fine print. If it doesn't come from the USPTO, you don't need them!
One thing I’ve learned that they don’t teach you in business school—not that I even went—was that there exists somebody to take advantage of your inexperience in every way that it manifests by selling you something you don't need.
