Today every business must have an online presence to conduct commerce, display Web pages, as well as to serve as a front door to your operation. Start here:
Before you have a website you have to have a domain name
What is a domain name? A domain name is the address of your virtual online storefront or business address. Here are a few simple rules to keep in mind when you're getting starting building your online business presence:
- You can register any domain name for your business ending in .com, .biz or .net and .info, and even more, provided the name is not in use by another party.
- Non-profits and educational institutions can register using .org and .edu.
Use any popular domain search engine to look up potential names, to first register the available name you want; then you can move later to selecting your hosting service and get to building your website.
- You would be smart to register several domains, one for your primary brand and one for each product you may make, like www.greendaisy.com and www.buy-mom.com.
- Register alternate spellings of your domain, or add an "s" on to your product name, to keep other people from highjacking your brand.
