In August 2007 I built a website for parents - in October 2011, I just re-designed and re-launched the site. I have also taken a risk and in this economy I have hired 5 FT and 2 PT staff to help me grow this site into a huge resource for parents. We are basically the matchmaker between parents and businesses who want to reach parents. Things are going very well - check the site out:

Would love your feedback!

I'm a New York City-based artist, designer, and stay-at-home mom trying to grow her lifestyle design brand, collective. I currently have two lines for the brand in the works:

1) auntees, a baby clothing and accessories collection that consists of simple, sustainable, customizable designs

2) Northcutt, a fashion and home accessories collection that incorporates smart, stylish, slightly romantic designs.

Both lines are locally produced, and have been initially well-received. I am looking for funding for materials, production, high-quality website design, and business coaching.

Please check out my blog, collective, and thank you for all your work to help entrepreneurs succeed!

What gives you your momentum? This is the question I ask women every day on my blog, (or SoMo, for short.)

Our #1 goal is to provide witty & inspiring content to our audience of moms who have lost a little piece of themselves as they have journeyed through motherhood. We want them to leave the site feeling passionate about hitting their stride — not just as a mom, but as a woman. By hitting your stride, we mean positioning yourself to live life on “upswing” (this is where MOMentum comes in)…and doing it 100% Guilt Free!

We want our readers to know they aren’t alone — our kids throw fits in the Target toy isle and we too, feel overworked and underappreciated. We have several fabulous writers from all over the country — each with their own viewpoints and specialties. As writers, they encourage the audience to hang up their SuperMom cape and come together as a community of “proudly imperfect moms.”

As the founder, my passion is to take this to the next level — online or in print — to provide a powerful place for those of us who have nurtured our families for years and have put our own dreams and aspirations on the backburner. This would inspire moms to reinvent themselves, make their mark and do what they love.

I am a 13-year veteran art director in the publishing field, designing trade magazines for the construction industry. I, too, am trying to make my mark and have come to the conclusion I cannot do that designing plumbing magazines. I would love to have the exposure, support and funding to put 100% of my passion into SoMo — making it the go-to place for all things inspirational.
Thanks, Kim.

Hi Kim,

I am a grandmother and great grandmother. I have been working in the tax business for 6 years. I just lost my husband in Jan 09 that left me with out his income and not knowing what to do. I have been a tax supervisor for 2 years and taught the tax classes for 2 years for my company. This year business droped and the company after 8 weeks being open that put me in a bind. They moved out of town and left offices. I want to start my own tax service but I have no income except my social security. I don't have good credit either. I would like to know if you could tell me what and how I could start my business. I am also going to get your book. I found your information in familycircle book. I need help and bad. Your website pumped me up to try.

Thank You

The most horrible job in the world gave me one of the best ideas in the universe! As a new mother, I had to go back to work to help support the family when my husband took a large pay cut. I wound up working for an employer that did not provide a private place for me to utilize my breast pump. So, I created a product that allowed for privacy, ease of access and removal for my use... and then I showed it to other new moms. The idea has been catching on... and women are now contacting me to request them for themselves. I've found a unique need in a market that is expanding. Now I need help to take the next step in my venture... And, I want you to help me! Let's get started! --- I'm a perfect candidate for your concept show. Give me a call!

I have designed many creative kits like, The Creative Soul Kit and Your Blossoming Heart Kit. I have also designed workshops and coaching sessions like Jump Start Your Creative Practice and Idea Jam Sessions.

I started Sara Ortiz Workshops to support women who I lovingly call Creative Butterflies, Creative Starlets and Creative Divas. These women use their creative power every day. Some are just starting out, some are stuck and don't know which way to go (Butterflies), some are highly successful but need some Me Time (Divas) and some are in the middle, trying to grow their business and themselves (Starlets).

My motto is "Take care of yourself so you can take care of your business." I have the foundation set. I just need exposure so I can connect with and help these amazing self-employed women.

Hi Kim,
I am the mother of three precious boys. I have read your book "Mommy Millionaire." The book really helped me to understand the process of getting my great ideas out there but I keep running into the issue where I got to have all this extra money to get started. The two inventions that I have don't cost a whole lot to get started, but do take money that I don't have because my income is so limited. What I need to know is, if there is help out there because my inventions are those that need to be shared with the world. They are practical, useful, and would be liked and used by other moms. I've used them with all three of my boys. Please someone help me get my products to the stores!!!

I have always been on the lookout for new business ideas but have never hit on that great idea...until now! But it has been a crazy ride, and due to recent events I am hoping I can power on and make it the success it deserves to be! The idea for our product was not even mine, but that of my 3 kids, Erin, Lachlan and Jake. They created Flipoutz on a long boring car trip and I decided to take it to the world! Flipoutz has been in the works for over 2 years as we worked through the ideation phase, prototyping, design, packaging, manufacturing, and we even have a patent pending! Flipoutz are brightly colored bracelets that hold 5 self expressive coins. Kids wear the coins, trade them with their friends and then track the coins at as they continue to be traded all around the world. is a web 2.0 community for tweens where all content is pre-moderated so it is a super safe place to hang out, chat with friends, create a profile page, blog, and keep up with their coins. We launched the business in October at the National Tween Girls Summit in Washington DC - kids loved the idea and parents loved the positive messages on the coins and the safe website. Two weeks after the launch, our family home burned to the ground and although somewhat damaged, our inventory was one of the only items to make it through the fire. We lost a lot of momentum, but noone was injured in the fire so we are able to view it not as a tragedy, but an opportunity to hit the reset button. We are forging ahead and just attended the International Toy Fair in New York in February where Flipoutz was greeted with much enthusiasm. We are being offered many opportunities. However, I find myself paralyzed and unable to take it to the next level, in part due to the enormity of losing everthing and the overwhelming job of rebuilding, and in part due to the fact that I am learning as I go. I am praying that I can avoid any devastating mistakes. I know this business can help us "hit the reset button" on our lives in a new and exciting way if I can just figure it all out before we lose the momentum and opportunities. I am heading out to the book store now in the hope of finding your book which I am sure will give me some guidance and encouragement. Please check out our product and community at and thanks for all you do for all of the current and soon-to-be millionaire moms! Emily

My name is Susan Widner and I have come up with the idea of an ATV Pet Carrier. As an avid ATV rider and pet owner I used to take my Shiatzu dog Sammy riding with me in a 6 gallon milk crate. After being laid off in May of 2009 I decided to make my dream a reality and designed a pet carrier for small and large dogs that can be attached to the front or back of the ATV. The box will have removable material so it can be washed after a muddy day of riding, a drop down hatch for large dogs to jump in, a hook and loop for those who think their dog may jump out, and also storage containers on either side to carry the necessary doggie essentials on the trail like water, treats, and leashes.

I am in the begining stages of this dream. I have a graphic design and a website but nothing else. I am looking for someone who wants to help invest in this dream with me and take it to market. I truly believe that this is the next great sensation in ATV trail riding and with a little luck and a lot of hard work I will get there. Anyone out there want to take this ride with me?

This post is not like most of the others. I did not start my own business, My husband and I are putting 3 kids through catholic school, so extra money is not an option.

We live in Grand Rapids Mi, so we spend quite a bit of time at our beautiful beaches in the summertime. This is where I came up with two great inventions. I can make going to the beach even more enjoyable, but I need your assistance. I am looking for angel investors, or maybe even just an angel to help me make my dream come true!!

Thank you for everything you do.

I left college at age 20 to pursue my first business venture, a unique gift shop (my parents were not thrilled). Two years later I gained a partner and started importing from China and then moved into Russia importing/exporting Casein (by product of milk). After eight years in the business I sold my half of the business to my partner to go back to college and get my degree (My parents were thrilled).

After finishing college in 2000. I took a job with a grocery promotional company and worked my way up to the VP of Sales and Marketing. I started many new ventures for this company, but recently the company lost a big portion of their business in October 2009. So I was let go from the company.

In 2007 while working for the promotional company, I started my own women's matching golf accessories business creating, designing, wholesaling, exporting and importing products from Taiwan/China. Working fulltime and running my business was very time consuming/exhausting, but now I am fulltime running my company and learning a lot more as I go. Having the time to focus on my business is leading me to look for manufactures and sales representatives in the USA. It can be very costly as a small business to manufacture overseas, especially with our world changing very fast. A lot of my costs go into samples/shipping/testing which make my costs rise.

I loved reading the Mommy Millionaire book. A lot of the information has been very useful. In August I started the trade mark process for my company’s logo through the USPTO site, as Kim mentioned in her book (Trademark 101). This is a great way to save money and protect your logo.

My dream is to make my business successful with my designs, creating jobs and a good environment for employees, creativity, impacting women/children around the world to play golf and feel good in what they are wearing.

My name is Suzanne Javorski, founder and owner of For many years, I have freelanced in writing, photography, and taking that a step further, combining the two. After reading Kim's story in an issue of Guideposts, I became intrigued with the thought that I could possibly market my work. I signed up for her newsletter and read each one as they came in. Then when I received the newsletter about how to start a business for under $500, I got very excited. Since I am raising 4 children, I thought it would be in my best interest to have a web store as opposed to a brick and mortar storefront. So I got started with per her recommendation and created a beautiful website featuring all of my products which range from bookmarks and keychains to beautifully framed poetry and my photography donning each piece of work. All of my poems are inspirational, uplifting, with wisdom and words to live by. I have written over 500 poems and my most uplifting ones were created out of my own life experiences. My mission is to share my writing with as many people as I can in hopes that I make a positive difference in someone's life. If and when that happens, whether the effect takes place for a minute, an hour, or a lifetime, then my mission is complete. Heartexpres is expressions from the heart. My advice to anyone else who has a talent, a trade, or something that they want to share with the world: Create from your heart. Don't create with money in mind, work from your heart and soul and the rewards will manifest along with your dreams. When you create from your heart, it will be your best work ever! My dreams and their manifestation are still in the making, I started my business only a year ago, but with a lot of determination, and my focus in the right place (creating from my heart) I know I will get there. Thank you Kim for your continued support, encouragement, advice, and your relentless attitude toward succeeding by never giving up hope!

This week I opened a checking account, and got my tax ID for my soap company, FaeryKissNaturals ( I was afraid to take this step...but finally did!! I have been selling lip balm to shops yet never really "delve" into it with the energy I am now! I work p/t also, but have a goal for this to be my only income someday...and a LOT of it too!! I have Mommy Manifesto, and the last few chapters really motivated me to get off my butt and go for it--and that a setback is really a set FORWARD. I love making vegan soaps, lip balms and salves and things get better every day, with my new ideas, or ideas from friends. I homeschool my son as well, and trying to make a "nature refuge" in what little space is around my house in N.C.! Sometimes simplifying your life brings more from the Universe to you, and that is what I feel I need to do at this point in my life.

And it is true, some family members won't support you or care, and that did bother me at first....but I am a go-getter...moving away from the family years ago to join the military helped me with that knowledge. I have a goal to have a FaeryKiss empire some day, LOL
I am 43 years young.
I can't thank Kim Lavine enough for her wisdom and books.. Thanks Kim!!

Hi, I am Kathy Nave from Georgetown, Indiana. My company is called Scattered Seeds for I have no idea who's heart I might touch. I have hand carved a wooden"Prayer Dove" and have had so many requests for them that I am now having them reproduced here in the USA! The dove was created for those who are coping with the problems of this world and words are not easy to find when trying to pray. It is being used by those who have lost a loved one, someone with an illness, a person going through a divorce and even for one who has lost a job. Hospice is finding uses for the dove as well as chaplains in hospitals and chaplains of our armed forces. ( I was told that a dove was on its way to Baghdad! ) A web page being developed as I write and it will be up and going soon! Going the Distance, Kathy

My Story--If not now, when?

My recent and prior employer, whose name escapes me at the moment, suddenly terminated my job. I happily went to my yearly evaluation having exceeded my goals. I was gone in the blink of an eye! “Sorry, bad economy is causing downsizing or rightsizing.” As opposed to super-sizing!
I felt jilted. After all, I ran an American College of Surgeon’s program; authored four abstracts on surgical care; and published twice with presentations nationally
[ ]. I thought they’d be proud to have their name and work spread across North America. Apparently not!

This is revolutionary. Now is the time for my product ideas to be taken to the next level.
I've drafted the pictures, added new ideas, got books on inventions, and talked with close friends and family—some in the medical, counseling, and design fields—all are urging me to “take the great ideas to market NOW that you’ve lost your job.” I've started the preliminary business plan.

Entrepreneurship was modeled to me by my Grandfather and Father. I started mine as a little girl selling pumpkins and picking bugs off plants for a “penny-a-bug”. Later, in my twenties, I ran a Permanent Cosmetic Business. My early thirties it was a Wedding Cake Business. My Mom always said I was full of confidence. In school I got in a bit of trouble for day dreaming. During high school I materialized my daydreams into art. Winning every art contest from pep rally posters to invitations, and receiving science awards made me want to be both an artist and veterinary. My parents put a stop to that.

I suppose they were doing their best. I found my young, just-turned-eighteen-self moved away to nursing school. Good thing I went into the medical field. My inventions spring from the medical field, but can be used everywhere by everybody.

I am ready for the hard work required. Being an RN since nineteen, I’ve worked 12 and even 16-hour shifts. I am no stranger to overcoming obstacles. In my mid-twenties I was raped and hide this for 10 years. Married, two kids and 10 years later 911 occurred changing everything. My oldest son was having challenges. No professional could determine what was troubling him. My son was later diagnosed with autism. I was exhausted from getting him help; exhausted from holding this secret of rape with post-traumatic stress, and exhausted from my Mom’s diagnosed terminal illness.
In January 2002, I dreamed of asking Dr. Phil’s advice. Why not? So I sent an email to Dr. Phil. The email was forwarded to Oprah with a resultant phone call. Two days later I was taping my story at Oprah. Family and friends were not happy about this—except one (she went with me). Two weeks later the show was aired helping women walk through the valley of the shadow of rape. My segment re-aired on another Oprah titled “E-mails To Oprah,” on March 4, 2002, for helping the most women.

My healing began in earnest. To assist my precious son (and myself) I trained in Brain Gym® from Educational Kinesiology becoming a Licensed Brain Gym® Instructor and Consultant] helping others get over blocks; release their incessant fight and flight responses to become fully functioning in a tough world. I also had a third child. We moved twice to find a school system that would be a good fit for my struggling son. The second school, by Lake Michigan, is a success for the whole family.

I took a full-time job to make the “better school dream” happen. My husband and I had two hefty mortgages. Going on three plus years, the house we left behind hadn’t sold. Grace stepped in upon losing my job: Our house sold that week, and I had one more week left to complete my Nursing/Administration Bachelor’s degree. Some debt left as quickly as my job.

These ideas keep me up at night! My obsession grew when my husband told me to get Kim Lavine’s books. Apparently, talk radio during a 140-mile job commute pays off. Barnes and Nobles had Mommy Manifesto. They ordered Mommy Millionaire, but inadvertently cancelled it. Short of accosting the nice woman at our local bookstore, The Bookman, she delivered the next day. I’ve been living on the books and Halloween treats since! Moms cannot live by Halloween treats alone! Now it is 11 p.m.. Kids are tucked snug in bed. Orange highlighter in hand keeping me up at night.

I laughed some of Kim's experiences. Let me explain. My husband has always worked as a manager in warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing. One prior employer of perishable foods had a huge account for a grocery store chain called Meijer. When my husband and I would grocery shop at Meijer he’d always become indignant at the mess “his companies” racks were in. He’d invariably start sorting, shifting, and making it all presentable again while I pretended I was not with him. After reading Kim's display catastrophes and remedies, I had to apologize for thinking him a-crazy-display-shelf-straightener. I also had to explain I understand when they ship ‘containers’ to and from overseas that it is not similar in size to containers we use to store Christmas ornaments. His response, “those babies are twenty some feet long. Explain what it means when I say it takes a big freight truck to haul it?” To which I deftly replied, "I thought maybe they stacked many containers together like we do in the basement!” Seems Lucy had some “ss-plaining” to do.

The dust finally settled this October. I can devote my time to family, kids, self, my inventions and business ideas—to bring all to fulfillment. There is a need for these products with an existing market. I have passion and vision that hits close to home with my Mother’s disease requiring chemotherapy with no white blood cells to ward off infections. I have something that would help protect her and everybody.

My experiences taught me there is nothing to fear and to love my self completely. I’ve nursed my babies (no brass bras for that)! Now, I’m ready to nurse along my inventions through all the business stages. I need guidance—a business coach and millionaire mentor, to assist in getting this up and running—to put on brass bras and go for it. To be free. To consider myself ‘bossed’ by Kim Lavine would be a dream come true!

With Gratitude and Appreciation,

Lucy (aka Lucile) Humphrey

Hi everyone! I am a New York mom entrepreneur.
My name is Alysa Vasapolli and I have searched high and low for a business to sink my teeth into...and I struck gold with a ground floor venture called Rodan + Fields(R) Dermatologists.
This company was started by the doctors that created the billion dollar brand, Proactiv(R)
for acne.
Just imagine if you could have partnered with the doctors back when they created Proactiv???
Their newest venture in skincare is focusing on sun damage reversal and aging.
The products were in high-end retail..became a #1 seller -- and then left retail to experience the growing and lucrative direct selling arena.

I am looking for business professionals to join my national group.
Contact me...but first check out my business site.
Thank you! And good luck to my fellow entrepreneurs on mommy millionaire

I am so inspired by all of your stories and hope that my testimony can be an encouragement to you all as well!

In May 2009, my hairstylist gave me a free “Body Magic Experience”. I was having trouble losing the last few pounds of baby weight I gained from my second pregnancy, and she could tell it was bothering me. She transformed me from a size 12 to a size 8 before my very eyes! I was impressed and sold on this amazing, reshaping garment instantly. She then shared with me how I could earn a very large, passive income by just sharing this same experience with others. I have been in business for just over 5 months, and I can honestly say that I no longer worry about bills! I have more time to spend with my family and I truly believe I am living up to God’s expectations for my life.

Who do you know that would like to drop 2-3 dress sizes without pills, diet, exercise, or surgery? How would like to earn thousands of dollars extra every month by showing them how?

Warm regards and best wishes to all of you wonderful moms!

Alpha Buddies are plush alphabet characters from A-Z that connect together vertically and horizontally to spell children's names, words and the alphabet. They can also, be hung on the wall.
The U.S. Patent office issued "Alpha Buddies" a Trademark, A Design Patent, for the unique look of the product and a Utility Patent, for the innovative ability to connect multiple characters together as a learning aid.

There are various ways to market "Alpha Buddies", children's names, words or the alphabet. "Alpha Buddies" successfully sold at various malls in IL. Children of all ages love to see their name spelled in "Alpha Buddies" characters.

Currently, we are looking for experienced marketers to expand the "Alpha Buddies" name nationwide. Also, we are looking for investors to assist us with inventory and other financial operations of the business.

Making children happy when they see their name spelled in "Alpha Buddies", is the inspiration that keeps us going!

We are so blessed as to have had the opportunity to adopt internationally- twice! What an experience! Our newest big blessing is very little! She weighed 2.9lbs at birth. She is growing and is very strong and healthy, but she is destined to be petite. At three years of age she weighs 20 lbs. Which brings me to my original design/invention. I have taken up more pants, shorts, skorts and skirts than you can imagine and she is only three years old. I developed a simple and fast way to take up all those clothes that are to big. It works wonders-even my mom is impressed. I have done a lot of research on bringing my product to market, but I am stuck and need a little help. I know there must be other moms and dads out there who could benefit from this! Keep your pants up I am trying to get this idea to market for all those little ones! Mommy Millionaire for all those little ones I need your help!

October 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPegg Johnson promises to change the world and save the economy for families nationwide. is a business directory the lists ONLY self-employed parents, and an online search for consumers to choose to shop with parents, give their money directly to a family, and feel good about the value of each purchase.
Together we earn "milk money" or extra revenue for our families. This is the answer for many families who wish to keep one parent at home while bringing in 2 incomes. We are committed to making purchases only from each other and by doing so, we have created a "mini-economy." Our vision has created an alternative to daycare, joblessness and working for others who force us to put their needs before our children's needs. We embrace free-enterprise and see the unstable economy as an opportunity for growth and rebuilding.
This is a concept that many parents have already taken part of across the country, in more than 80 major markets, but we need to get the word out to truly succeed. We have come as far as we have on very little funds and 100% word of mouth. Annual membership for each self-employed parent is only $25/year.
Please visit us to shop and support self-employed parents!

I am a mother of four young adults males. I am looking into the thought of working with what is called plastic canvas and turning what I love to do into a full time business. I make tissue box covers, coaster, magnets, wall hangings, kids games, ( checkers, tick tack toe) etc. I would love to find a way to also, stay at home and work and make a living at it as well. If anyone has any ideas of how that might be possible, please, do let me know. Here's my email address. Look forward to hearing from you.

The world needs this ray of hope and leadership! This is definitely an exciting time and more importantly, the biggest opportunity to build a business. It's about having a DREAM... then taking ACTION!

Forget about the doom & gloom. Despite losing our investments, savings and almost foreclosing on our home, I'm pumped more than ever to build my business. My daughter's future depends on it and I'm grateful for the inspiration to take it on. My name is Judy Biltz. I am Grandmother of three Granddaugthers. When my first Granddaugther was born in April, 2002, I would help my daugther, Jill care for her. When it was bath time, I would sometimes leave her unattended to go get towel, shampo, etc. I didn't like leaving her unattended for even a second. I searched the market and that's when I decided to create my own bath time organizer. Several weeks went by and one night I woke from a vision I had. I clearly saw a picture of it. That day I started to create and came up with a bath organizer. It holds bath products, toys, towels, etc. It is wonderful. Everything is at arms length. Never have to leave your child in the tub alone again.
On September 4, 2007, I had a life changing event in my life.(that's another story), but on that day, I bought Kim's book, "Mommy Millionaire". It was a Gift from God.
I named it Jillybean after my daughter. We would call her that when she was a little girl.
By the Grace of God my hopes and dreams are coming true. Thanks, Kim !!!

At the age of 45 I made the decision to be a stay-at-home mother when we adopted our first daughter in 2005. I had pursued a 25 year career in the field of Accounting and Information Systems implementation. I had accumulated a healthy paycheck in the past, but now was the time to pursue my life-long dream of being a mother.

In 2007 I started Geneva Girls Designs, LLC as the business infrastructure behind my invention, The Style 'n Wrap, a heat-resistant hairstyling tool organizer. This business has taken many twists and turns, but with each step along the path, I've accumulated a lot of business knowledge that I never acquired through my college education or 25 plus years in business. In addition to the Style 'n Wrap, I offer customized products on ETSY (see URL above).

In 2009 I started 3 Degrees-Connected, a women-owned, women-operated business network to help women make connections with others pursuing their own business aspirations. By sharing accumulated knowledge, we help each other avoid obstacles, and we can encourage and support one another to continue to pursue our passion.

Between operating my own business and starting this women's network . . . service to others has been much more reward. We hope that the intrinsic value associated with helping one another will blossom into economic value to help our businesses grow. We have setup a blog at to provide resources to women in West Michigan and to be inspired. Although this network has a regional appeal, the articles are practical for anyone running a business. Please feel free to become a "fan" and follow our blog.

Best wishes to everyone. If you are interested in learning more about the Style 'n Wrap, I will be featured on "yakaboutit" on November 9, 2009, where conversations is just as valuable as purchasing the product.
